To replace your missing teeth, most dentists recommend a dental bridge. Basically, bridges are “hollow crowns”. They are anchored on each side by the two teeth that they are bridging together.
These teeth are trimmed by your dentist, preparing them for the dental bridge. The procedure may be a bit uncomfortable and application of local anaesthesia is usually normal. Again, a dental impression will be made, once the trimming is completed, a dental impression will be taken and sent to the dental laboratory, where the bridge will be fabricated. In most instances, your dentist will provide you with a temporary bridge while waiting for the new one.
The next visit to your dentist will involve the removal of the temporary bridge and the evaluation of the new one for correct fit, color and effects on your bite. If the dentist sees that all is in order, your dental bridge will now be cemented in place. Other treatment options for missing teeth include dentures and dental implants. Dentures are considered to be less stable while implants are considered to be invasive. If well cared for, these dental bridges are able to endure for as long as 10 years.
